Prep Basketball takes a night off due to Inclement Winter Weather

CULLMAN – Tuesday's inclement weather caused an evening of high school basketball to not be played. Six regular season assignments were on tap with no one keeping the games on schedule for the safety of the players and fans.

 

One assignment will not be made up. West Point was to play at Vinemont Tuesday with Vinemont Principal Brandon Payne reporting the games will not be rescheduled with the regular season down to three days.

 

Walker at Cold Springs will be played Thursday after it was postponed Tuesday. The Eagles will be playing for the first time after winning the Cullman County championship last Saturday at Wallace State.

 

Madison Academy comes to Holly Pond on Friday with a matchup of highly ranked teams. Madison Academy was No. 2 going into this week's 3A rankings with Holly Pond No. 3. The girls battle is Madison Academy at No. 2 and Holly Pond No. 4. The girls will play at 5:30 while the Broncos and Mustangs take to the floor at Felton Easterwood Gym at 7 p.m.

 

The Priceville at Good Hope games will be Saturday for senior night. This will be the final regular season game for the Lady Raiders and Raiders at D.E. Ryan Gymnasium. The games will be at 5 & 6:30 p.m.

 

There's no word if Corner and Hanceville will be replayed. These games were called off Tuesday at Lane Horton Gymnasium.

 

As of Wednesday, Cullman was to play at Gardendale in an attempt to make up its games after not able to get to the gymnasium Tuesday night.

 

Games that were regularly scheduled Thursday and Friday will continue to be played. On Thursday, Good Hope goes to Holly Pond, Arab comes to Cullman, Fairview is at West Point and Curry is on the road to meet Vinemont.

 

Now on Friday, Vinemont has an assignment at Cold Springs with Hanceville heading to Joe Shults Gym to meet Fairview. The Madison Academy-Holly Pond game has been added, giving a total of five local teams playing for the final Friday of January.

 

Regular season play ends on Monday with Holly Pond playing at Cullman, Good Hope traveling to Hayden, Cold Springs at West Point and Fairview at Vinemont. 

 

Area tournaments will begin next weekend with girls area tournament play at Cold Springs and Holly Pond. Local boys area tournaments will be hosted by Hanceville and Holly Pond.
