WEST POINT – Members of the West Point Town Council conducted a special meeting Thursday night for the purpose of getting a much-needed repaving project underway.
It was approved by a 4-1 margin to have County Roads 1196, 1142 and 1127, inside the West Point municipality, repaved, in addition to County Road 1141, which is outside the municipality.
A motion was made for Mayor Kenneth Kilgo to borrow up to $250,000 if needed from Premier Bank of Cullman, at an interest rate of 3.49 percent, for the project.
The loan would take approximately five years to repay, according to information provided by the town council.
The repaving contract was awarded to Good Hope Contracting. Kilgo visited with the company Friday morning to get the project moving in the right direction.
A total of $150,000 of town money will be used in the project as well.
According to reports, the Cullman County Road Department will also assist.
The timetable for the completion of the project is approximately three to four weeks.
An update by the mayor and council on the project is probable when the next meeting takes place on Monday, July 18 at 6 p.m. inside the town hall.
