CULLMAN – Desperation Church and the City of Cullman teamed up for their annual Fourth of July celebration and fireworks show at Heritage Park tonight. Lasting 16 minutes, the fireworks show was appreciated by the many people inside the park, along the sidewalks and sitting in their truck beds in business parking lots near Heritage Park.

In the inflatable bounce house and on big and small slides, children hopped, bounced and slid their way to the best of patriotic celebrations. The bigger kids tossed Frisbees, played cornhole and basketball and kicked around soccer balls. The grown folk were found in the coveted shady spots along the park.

Misty Morgan of Hayden chased her 2-year-old daughter, Kylie Marie, around the park while her boyfriend watched. The family made their pilgrimage to the Heritage Park festivities for their first time.

“This is our first year coming here to see the fireworks. We didn’t come last year because the baby was too small and I didn’t want to scare her. But, I reckon she’s old enough now. We had a good time and are ready for the fireworks to start!”

The shaved ice and ice cream trucks were hot commodities in the afternoon when temperatures were in the mid to low 90s. Desperation Church also provided free watermelon slices to those interested. Several people walked along the outskirts of the main crowd and distributed free popsicles, which were appreciated by all recipients.

Through the sound system, Desperation Church welcomed people in the community who are looking for a church home to visit them at one of their three campuses located in Cullman, Arab and Jasper.

DC’s Cullman campus is located at 202 Elizabeth St, NE and their service times are 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 5 p.m., and 6:15 p.m. on Sundays and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. For more information, visit their website at www.desperationchurch.tv.
