HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville City Council met on Thursday evening with all councilors present along with Mayor Kenneth Nail, City Attorney Dan Willingham, Police Chief Bob Long and Fire Chief Rodger Green.

Ordinance No. 646 was added to the city’s alcohol ordinance. The ordinance passed unanimously.

Adding to the established ordinance, the new verbiage for Ordinance No. 646 Section 13.1, which addresses the packaging of alcoholic beverages, reads, “if premises are within 400 feet of a church, all sales of alcoholic beverages must be placed in a bag, box or similar opaque covering prior to the customer’s leaving the licensee building.”

Section 4.1 details exceptions to the location of the beverage sale site with the newly added portion, reading that the restrictions will not apply “where the city licensed premise is separated by a highway, road or street having at least four traffic lanes.”

In other business, two sealed bids were opened for the old Senior Center property on Spruce Street. With a bid of $40,700, Bales Property Management was the winner.

Additional ordinances for the rezoning of the Harrison Property, new Dollar General on Hwy 91 and old Fred’s building were approved along with a franchise agreement for the water board to secure a 30-year bond.

“I will say that I could not ask for anyone to work better with the city than the water board does now. If we have a problem, they work with us. It’s for the citizens. We’re working good together now for the citizens of Hanceville,” commented Mayor Nail.

With Tyson building a new $208 million rendering plant next to its former location which burned last July, they have also donated $50,000 for an arboretum at the new city park. Cullman Savings Bank, set to open a new branch in Hanceville at a later date, has donated $20,000 for a 40’x80’ pavilion at the park.
