Flu hampers West Point Girls’ Thanksgiving Tournament

WEST POINT – Cold Springs was scheduled to play a doubleheader Wednesday in the last day of the West Point Girls' Thanksgiving Tournament. But the Lady Eagles' first game was canceled due to Guntersville not being able to field a full squad because members and staff were sick with the flu.

Guntersville only had six players Tuesday to play Hanceville and was able to pull out a 45-37 victory. But the flu has affected the team and the coaching staff with Guntersville unable to return Wednesday.

Cold Springs was to play Guntersville to begin the Wednesday schedule. The schedule remained as it was with the first game between Hanceville and Phil Campbell tipped off at 11:15 a.m. Cold Springs' game with Oakman was to begin around 12:30 p.m., followed by West Point-Oakman at 1:45 and Hanceville vs. Albertville at 3:00 p.m.

The tournament was set up by West Point coach John Welborn with the county teams, West Point, Hanceville and Cold Springs to play four games in the round-robin format.

West Point played a doubleheader Tuesday, winning both games against Albertville 49-37 and Oakman 62-33. Hanceville and Phil Campbell carried out its doubleheader scheduled with no issues, such a flu-like symptoms.
