CULLMAN, Ala. – April is upon us (on Monday), which means the popular April Walking Tours will begin next Saturday, April 6. Begun by the Alabama Tourism Department 10 years ago, the April Walking Tours take place every Saturday morning in April in several communities throughout the state.

Cullman County Museum Director Drew Green has several tour guides lined up this year, including Dr. Bill Peinhardt, Michael Sullins, Ben South and Leslie Bearden Hyde of the Southern Ghost Girls.

Said Green, “We have different leaders each Saturday and they can go wherever they want to go. I believe Ben South is going to do a cake walk and the last Saturday is the Southern Ghost Girls which is the hot thing this year.”

This year is a special one for the tours, as this is the third and final year of the Alabama Bicentennial celebration. The history of Alabama and its communities have been the focus of many special events, and the April Walking Tours will be no exception.

Each tour is approximately one hour long and will begin and end at the Cullman County Museum. Admission to the museum will be free after the tours for those interested in learning more about Cullman’s past.

Tour dates are April 6, 13, 20 and 27. All tours begin at 10 a.m. There is no charge.
