(Updates) ALDOT inspecting damaged I-65 bridge in Cullman County

1:13 P.M. UPDATE CULLMAN CO SHERIFF: Update Traffic detour - I-65 NB at 291 traffic will be diverted to Hwy. 31 for a minimum of 3 more hours per ALDOT. nixle.us/A7WKY

11:53 A.M. UPDATE FROM THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (ALDOT): "I-65 northbound at the Gov. Guy Hunt Rest Stop (milepost 300) south of Good Hope will remain closed for an undetermined period of time today as crews remove debris and ALDOT personnel inspect the overpass. ALDOT personnel have performed initial examinations, but a more in-depth inspection will be necessary to ensure the integrity of the structure and determine what repairs may be necessary. The official detour for northbound traffic is Exit 291 to Alabama 91 northbound to U.S. 31 northbound in Hanceville to U.S. 278 westbound in Cullman to I-65 northbound at Exit 308."

UPDATE: An 18-wheeler dump truck's bed came up and caught the bridge on I-65 at the 300 mile marker at the rest area. No injuries reported. The left northbound lane is open, according to State Troopers. The right lane is shut down. Rest area is closed. ALDOT, ALEA, etc. on the scene. Damage to bridge. Bridge is closed while being inspected for structural damage. HAZMAT has been called to clean up hydraulic fluid and oil.
