HANCEVILLE - The Wallace State Community College Fine and Performing Arts program will host its annual Preview Day for current and incoming students interested in learning about scholarships and performance opportunities. The event will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.

The goal of the event is to help students become more familiar with the department’s facilities and faculty. Tours will be given of the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, and current students will perform to show examples of some of the work they’ve completed so far this year.

Students will get to speak with faculty about scholarship opportunities, audition requirements and any other questions students may have. Separate breakout sessions will be held for students to learn about specific programs within the Fine and Performing Arts program.

There are six options for students interested in the performing arts at Wallace State Community College: Jazz Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, Wallace State Singers, Wallace State Choir and Wallace State Theatre. Students can join one or more of the performance groups. Auditions are required for all, except for Wallace State Choir. Scholarship opportunities also exist for most of the performing arts programs; they also require auditions.

“We are very proud of our performance programs at Wallace State,” said Ricky Burks, head of the department. “Students who join our programs become well-rounded individuals and they get many opportunities to perform in front of a wide variety of audiences.”

Students do not have to be music majors to join or audition for any of the performing arts programs. They do need to be able to commit their time for classes and/or rehearsals for performances.
